Tanjung Bin Energy Power Plant

Coal-fired power plant

Tanjung Bin Energy (TBE) power plant, also known as T4, is a supercritical coal-fired power plant located in Johor, Malaysia. It was developed by Tanjung Bin Energy Issuer, a part of Malakoff Corporation.

The project is located at the southern tip of the West Malaysian Peninsula.

The 1,000MW unit is an extension of Malakoff’s existing Tanjung Bin Power Plant (TBPP), which has a generating capacity of 2,100MW.

Gruppe Dynamic was appointed to undertake a significant project involving the design and coordination of interfacing for ten junction towers as part of an upgrading project for a new conveyor line. A substantial steel structure weighing 1000 metric tons was designed for each of these towers. The project presented a unique challenge: the towers had to withstand lateral forces ranging from 400 kN to 700 kN. This required meticulous engineering to ensure proper load transfer and distribution onto the ground.

Gruppe’s role as the leading structural engineer was pivotal in addressing this challenge. Their expertise was instrumental in developing robust designs that could effectively resist the substantial lateral forces acting on the towers. The engineering phase of the project spanned nine months, during which Gruppe’s team meticulously planned and coordinated the intricate interfacing requirements for the ten junction towers.

Following the comprehensive engineering phase, the erection stage commenced, lasting approximately eight months. During this period, Gruppe closely oversaw the construction process, ensuring the seamless integration of the junction towers with the new conveyor line system while adhering to the stringent design specifications and safety protocols.
