Kuantan Port

New Deep Water Terminal

Kuantan Port, a deep water, all-weather, multi-cargo seaport at the heart of global trade and industrial activity, is managed by Kuantan Port Consortium Sdn Bhd (KPC), a joint venture between IJM Corporation Berhad and Beibu Gulf Holding (Hong Kong) Co. Ltd. To meet the escalating economic development of the Eastern Industrial Corridor, Kuantan Port is expanding its operations by constructing a New Deep Water Terminal (NDWT) to double its cargo capacity to 52 million freight weight tonnes.

The NDWT project has two phases, with Phase 1A completed and operational in 2018, and Phase 1B in 2019. The 16-metre depth NDWT is a game-changer, capable of accommodating vessels up to 180,000 deadweight tonnes, three times larger than Kuantan Port 1. Currently, the NDWT handles approximately 7 million tonnes of cargo per year, primarily focusing on dry bulk and break-bulk cargoes in its first phase, and is designed for semi-automated operation with minimal workforce compared to Kuantan Port 1.

Gruppe Dynamic has been involved in multiple projects at Kuantan Port. In 2019, they were assigned for engineering design and review of the transfer tower, conveyor, drive units, and ship unloader for the coal handling system. In 2021, Gruppe Dynamic provided engineering consultation services for structural integrity assessment on the Liquid Chemical Berth (LCB) areas – MOB, LCB#1, LCB#2, LCB#3 & POB#3.
